Rappelling the Juan Curí waterfall
WhereJuan Curí, outside San Gil — about 180 m tall in Macondo's notes (Colombia's tourism board says around 200 m), ending in a natural pool.
Macondo calls Juan Curí one of Colombia's most beautiful waterfalls — in a country full of them. From the highway it's about a 40-minute hike to the mid-section, beneath one 70 m drop and standing at the top of another.
From there you rappel 70 m down the face with the water cascading over you, then cool off in the pool at the bottom. Guides rig and manage the ropes; all you have to do is lean back. Which is the hard part.
Questions
Do I need climbing experience?
Macondo's notes don't mention any; the guides brief you and control the ropes. Ask about health or weight limits when you book.
